This is just a little plug for Adobe Lightroom. Probably for those of you who have no interest in photography you will find this very boring, but I will try to make this as short and sweet as possible. When I went to Inspiring Images I heard about Lightroom and was told it was the most amazing thing since chocolate. I wasn't quite ready to believe it, because as yet I have not discovered anything man-made which is remotely close to chocolate (other than possibly my beautiful 7d). But I decided to buy it, and oh my it was and is amazing. Now this afternoon I've had a bit of free time to muck around with my pictures, and below you see this pretty pathetic and boring picture of a tree branch, which I took on Monday.
And walla here is my Lightroom edited version. Now, I still don't think it's a great picture and I'm not really sure whether I edited it too much, but I think it is way better than the original. When I showed Caitlin she said "What's the point in doing all the editing because then it isn't really your picture". And I agree there's no point taking dodgy pictures and then spending ages editing each one. Generally I try to be really careful if I edit mine to only slightly fix things which I couldn't necessarily fix on my camera before pressing the shutter button.
And another cool thing is the really awesome options for creating watermarks. I was just fiddling with it the other day, and I quickly made one. I'm not really sure about the whole name thing, I think it looks too long and rather standard, but I've haven't taken the time to think something decent yet. But it does make my pictures look pro. :)

Lightroom is awesome. I've seen an almost-pro friend of mine turn an underexposed (the photo was nearly black) shot, and make it bright as day. Editing does have its benefits :)
ReplyDeleteAs for watermark, why not use an abbreviation of your name, like "BGR", in small text, and then have fun hiding it in a different spot in each photo. Blend it in along the stick in the one above for example.
Not sure if Lightroom itself is that powerful for custom watermarks, but worth looking at :)
Hi Adam,
DeleteThanks for the watermark suggestion. I could turn it into kind of like a "Where's Wally" game (except that it would be "where's BGR" which doesn't sound anywhere near as exciting :). I was fiddling again tonight and came up with another watermark. Would appreciate your honest opinion and whether you think it just looks tacky. :)
I'e heard so many good things about Lightroom but... wow. That's amazing!
ReplyDeletefun fun!! You should tell Kylie and make her feel victorious :D
ReplyDeleteWell technically it was Daniel who told me about it first. We had a discussion about editing before Kylie's session. BUT Kylie's session on editing was really good, and it did make me actually go out and buy it. :) I'll thank her and Daniel forever. :)
DeleteLooks incredible! Loads of editing has it's place....you took the photo, you edit it, and it still stays completely your work of art!
ReplyDeleteYou're the second photographer I know to recommend Lightroom - sounds like it's worth peering into it!
ReplyDeleteI feel honoured that you class me as a photographer friend. :)
